Clay Play:
Spring Holiday Classes

Term 3 Spring school holidays starting 30th September 2024.

Who.

This class is suitable for children aged between 8-12 years. No previous experience is required.

Where & When.

Classes take place between 30th September - 9th October during the spring school holidays from 10am-3pm at the Object & Ceramic Design (OCD) studio, located at 9 Addison Rd Marrickville. You can book as little or as many days as you need in the booking module below.

What we’ll do.

The tutor will demonstrate the different types of hand-building techniques, including pinching, coiling and slab building. Students will work on individual projects, ranging from the functional through to more sculptural pieces. They will learn the art of surface decoration, using a range of techniques including carving, stamping, and painting, to finish off their creations.

All pieces will be glazed and fired. Students can collect their works 3-4 weeks after their lesson(s) - we will let you know when it is ready to pick up.

Price.

The cost will be $120 per day. This includes clay, use of tools and equipment, glazes and firing.

Schedule.

Healthy, nutritious and they will never rot! Learn how to sculpt your own selection of ceramic fruits, using the pinching and coiling hand building techniques.

Week 2:

Tuesday 8th Mini Cactus Pot Plants

Create your own collection of mini ceramic succulents that will never require any looking after!

Wednesday 9th Press Mould Plates

Everything tastes better on a plate you made yourself! Learn the art of press moulding and surface decoration using transfers, while making something unique and functional.

What to bring.

Wear something that’s easy to clean, or that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Covered shoes are ideal and think about keeping long hair out of the way.

All you need to pack is a water bottle, morning tea, lunch, and a snack for afternoon tea. Please ensure no nuts or products containing nuts are included in the packed lunch. If the weather is good, we will go across the road to Enmore Park for lunch, so don’t forget to pack a hat too.

The boring bits.

You can book one or as many days as you like.

The kiln gods can be a bit cheeky so we are not responsible for breakages, though we will do our best to ensure your child’s pieces are prepared properly for firing.

The studio is a place for respectful and inclusive learning. We reserve the right to ask parents to collect their child(ren) if they display dangerous, disrespectful or unruly behaviour.

Getting there.

We’re at 9 Addison Rd in Marrickville, opposite The Vic, right near the intersection of Enmore Rd and seconds from Enmore Park.

Dare to drive? There is ample parking along either side of Enmore Park, on Llewellyn St or Victoria Rd. There are also spaces along Addison Rd or any of the nearby side streets.

Save the world, one bus trip at a time. Routes 355, 423, 426, 428, 430 all stop close by - alight at Enmore Park and pop around the corner.
