Hand-building pottery class: Make your own mug

Hand-make a vessel for your morning ritual.

What you’ll make.

It’s time to get functional. Together we will explore a range of different coffee cup forms and textural decorative techniques to add colour and personality to your design. You will then be ready to create your very own coffee mug! Your piece will be glazed and fired after class and will be ready for collection from the studio in 3-4 weeks. It will be safe to use in the dishwasher and microwave too.

What you’ll learn.

In this class, the tutor will demonstrate the coiling technique, how to successfully attach handle(s) and other three-dimensional decorative elements to your unique coffee mug. You will also be shown how to create different textural effects, using a range of sculpting and trimming tools or choose to decorate your surface with underglaze colours.

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate.

This is a beginner class accessible to people with no previous experience, and those who’ve dabbled before. You must be 13+ to attend this class.

Class length: 2hrs. Price: $90pp.

This is a one-off 2hr introductory hand-building class - enough time to get a taste of what’s possible, pick up some new skills and create something you’ll be proud of!

Get dressed for success.

Wear something that’s easy to clean, or that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Covered shoes are ideal and think about keeping long hair out of the way.

The boring bits.

Unfortunately, the kiln gods are a capricious bunch and while we do our best to minimise the possibility, breakages may happen during firing. We cannot offer refunds for damaged items.

Getting there.

We’re at 9 Addison Rd in Marrickville, opposite The Vic, right near the intersection of Enmore Rd and seconds from Enmore Park.
